Beauty Talk: Christian Louboutin Lipstick

August 6, 2015

Ladies, your makeup bags are about to get a lot sexier

Christian Louboutin is expanding his eponymous Beauté line (launched last year with a range of nailpolishes) to include lipsticks.

The highly anticipated collection will consist of 38 shades, including the perfect Louboutin red, and will be available in 3 consistencies: matte, satin and sheer. Forget the colours, it’s the packaging that’s killing me. Like the nailpolishes, I feel like these lipsticks can be used solely to decorate a vanity. Oh, they can also be worn as a pendant around your neck, if that’s your thing. At $90 a pop they are QUITE pricey but would make for a good collector’s item if you’re a makeup lover.

Beauty Talk: Gerard Cosmetics Lipsticks

July 19, 2015
Gerard Cosmetics Lipsticks

Every girl knows that a good lipstick can instantly amp up your look (and your mood). This is precisely why I am always on the lookout for some good lippies to add to my arsenal. I had seen and heard makeup bloggers/YouTuber’s raving about Gerard Cosmetics for about a year now. I finally decided to take the plunge and ordered some colours about 2 weeks ago from the Gerard Cosmetics website. I was pleasantly surprised with the service, the package arrived in a week and all lipsticks were in tact.

I ordered 4 colours: Nude, Buttercup, All Dolled Up and Fire Engine. I swatched 3 of them in the video below (explanation for the missing fourth after the jump)

for those who can’t see the video on YouTube, click here

I really like the formula of these lipsticks. They apply creamy but look matter – and that is a winning combination in my look. The pigmentation isn’t AMAZING, but it’ll do.

I didn’t swatch Buttercup because, unfortunately, the colour is not working for me. The first time I applied it, it just looked like I applied some lip balm. I decided to give it another go this morning but it looked just as bad. Oops! I think someone with lighter lips/skin might be able to pull it off better. For me, I will layer it over some bright colours when I want to tone them down. Here are my reviews on the other colours:

NUDE: I loooove this colour. It is really hard for me to find a nude lipstick that suits my skin perfectly. Most of them end up being too chalky or too brow and I end up mixing a couple to get that perfect shade – until now. I have been wearing this mostly everyday for 2 weeks.

ALL DOLLED UP: I would say this is quite similar to the iconic lippie that is Candy Yum Yum. It is a cool-toned pink with a slight purple-ish base. The staying power is phenomenal, I wore it out for an Indian dinner and it stayed all night so you know it’s worth it.

FIRE ENGINE: For someone who  doesn’t really do red lips often, my collection of rouge lipsticks is obscene. I decided to add Fire Engine into the mix because, why the hell not. Fire Engine is a subtle red with blue undertones. I prefer warmer reds as they work better with my skin and hair. I do have a problem with the pigmentation of this lipstick, I had to apply four layers to get the colour to pop.

Let me know if you guys have any colour recommendations in the comments below!

In this video I am wearing:

Beauty Talk: Summer Lipsticks

June 28, 2015
Summer lipsticks by MAC Saint Germain, Costa Chic and Sushi Kiss

Makeup remains my first true love, there is nothing I love more than literally painting my face. My #3 favourite makeup item (after eyeliner and highlighters) has to be lipstick. With the weather getting hotter and Iftaris and summer soirees in full swing, why not try some new lip colours?

My basic lipstick colours tend to change with the seasons and in the summer I gravitate towards sherbets, pastels and peachy coral tones. I find corals work best with my skin tone (tan, South Asian) and hair colour.  Here are my three staples for this year.IMG_3243

Left to Right: MAC Saint Germain, Sushi Kiss and Costa Chic. I have to admit I am a shameless MAC addict. The colour range is unreal, the staying power is great and the price is just right. I find all of these colours just wake up your face and refresh your whole look, especially if you have a bit of a tan.  IMG_3244 Saint Germain is a milky pastel pink which is really really hard to pull off. I have to admit I kind of jumped on the bandwagon when I bought this colour, and it looks SO pretty in the tube (that is really reason enough for me to buy a lipstick) that I couldn’t resist. My trick is to layer Saint Germain with Honey Love to neutralise the milkiness of the shade. Sushi Kiss is my second favourite, this lipstick is the perfect popsicle orange shade. It has a touch of coral and the creamy consistency is ah-maze. Costa Chic is universally flattering and one lipstick that you need to have in your arsenal. The pink-toned coral is gorgeous and opaque. On work days when I don’t want my lips to be too bright, I also layer Sushi Kiss and Costa Chic with Honey Love for a toned down look.

#KJ4EL: Kendall Jenner for Estee Lauder

June 24, 2015
kendall jenner for estee lauder lipstick envy

Kendall Jenner made waves when she announced her new gig as the face of Estee Lauder on Instagram a few months ago. Since the announcement, she has been featured in a few blekh campaign shots but the big news came this week as the brand released a lipstick bearing Kendall’s name.

As a lover of bright lips, Kendall Jenner’s shade in the Pure Colour Envy Matte Sculpting Lipstick caught my eye.

The shade is a bright orange-based red and all matte (and lemme tell you I love a good a matte lippie). You can shop the lipstick online at Estee Lauder’s website.
