#AmaraLoves: Saira Rizwan

July 21, 2015
Saira Rizwan

Saira’s boutique in the buzzing Mall One on Main Blvd in Lahore is welcoming and bright. It doesn’t drown you with odious amounts of clothing so you’re really able to absorb what you see. You walk in and see one rack of glittering formals and one of lawn pret. Through elusive wrought iron doors is where the bridal appointments take place. In the hour that I spend in the boutique, customers steadily trickle in and out. Saira herself is a beautiful woman, soft spoken and serious about her business. With a forray into lawn, a strong formal collection and plans to expand into new territories, Saira is taking her brand to new heights.

After showing her new bridal collection Gul Mohar to rave reviews in London and a stellar lawn collection, Saira is on everyone’s mind.  Gul Mohar, like the flower it’s named for, has a strong focus on muted earthy tones contrasted with splashes of deep rouge. Intricate embellishment and a throwback to vintage bridals add to the beauty of the colour palette. My eye was instantly  drawn to the cascading grey gown with floral zardozi (pictured below)

The lawn prêt line is a breath of fresh air amidst an ocean of mass printed, generic designer lines. I especially love the strong contrast of the applique embroidered lace against fresh florals (see the collection here).

Beauty Talk: Gerard Cosmetics Lipsticks

July 19, 2015
Gerard Cosmetics Lipsticks

Every girl knows that a good lipstick can instantly amp up your look (and your mood). This is precisely why I am always on the lookout for some good lippies to add to my arsenal. I had seen and heard makeup bloggers/YouTuber’s raving about Gerard Cosmetics for about a year now. I finally decided to take the plunge and ordered some colours about 2 weeks ago from the Gerard Cosmetics website. I was pleasantly surprised with the service, the package arrived in a week and all lipsticks were in tact.

I ordered 4 colours: Nude, Buttercup, All Dolled Up and Fire Engine. I swatched 3 of them in the video below (explanation for the missing fourth after the jump)

for those who can’t see the video on YouTube, click here

I really like the formula of these lipsticks. They apply creamy but look matter – and that is a winning combination in my look. The pigmentation isn’t AMAZING, but it’ll do.

I didn’t swatch Buttercup because, unfortunately, the colour is not working for me. The first time I applied it, it just looked like I applied some lip balm. I decided to give it another go this morning but it looked just as bad. Oops! I think someone with lighter lips/skin might be able to pull it off better. For me, I will layer it over some bright colours when I want to tone them down. Here are my reviews on the other colours:

NUDE: I loooove this colour. It is really hard for me to find a nude lipstick that suits my skin perfectly. Most of them end up being too chalky or too brow and I end up mixing a couple to get that perfect shade – until now. I have been wearing this mostly everyday for 2 weeks.

ALL DOLLED UP: I would say this is quite similar to the iconic lippie that is Candy Yum Yum. It is a cool-toned pink with a slight purple-ish base. The staying power is phenomenal, I wore it out for an Indian dinner and it stayed all night so you know it’s worth it.

FIRE ENGINE: For someone who  doesn’t really do red lips often, my collection of rouge lipsticks is obscene. I decided to add Fire Engine into the mix because, why the hell not. Fire Engine is a subtle red with blue undertones. I prefer warmer reds as they work better with my skin and hair. I do have a problem with the pigmentation of this lipstick, I had to apply four layers to get the colour to pop.

Let me know if you guys have any colour recommendations in the comments below!

In this video I am wearing:

FACE: [MAC Studio Fix Fluid NW 40] [MAC Pro Longwear Concealer NW 30] [Ben Nye Banana Powder]

EYES: [Ardell Demi Wispie Lashes] [Maybelline Gel Liner ] [Sephora Nude Eyeliner (in waterline)]

CHEEKS: [TheBalm Cindy Lou Manizer ] [Revlon PhotoReady Skinlights in Bare Light] [MAC Margin Blush]

Eye Candy: Wimbledon 2015

July 15, 2015
David Beckham Wimbledon 2015

Wimbledon has become, like most events in the world, a place for celebs to be seen. This year, more than ever, it seemed like I was looking at pictures of red carpet an awards show rather than courtside at a sports event. Nevertheless, I ain’t complaining. For this gave me the opportunity to ogle at gorgeous men, wearing impeccable suits and acting like English gentlemen. I mean…that is the dream, isn’t it?

Bradley Cooper Wimbledon 2015

Is he bored? Doesn’t matter. Bradley Cooper looks delish in his cream suit.

Tom Hiddleston at Wimbledon 2015

Tom Hiddleston working that hat like no other.

Hugh Grant Benedict Cumberbatch Wimbledon 2015

  Kit Harington Wimbledon Tennis Championships

I can’t. Kit Harrington is so beautiful.

Benedict Cumberbatch Wimbledon Tennis Championships

Helloooo Sherlock. Benedict as classy a-f.

Drake brings street cred to Wimbledon (I couldn’t write that with a straight face)

Monday Moodboard: Marbled

July 13, 2015

There has been sort of a marble revival in the last few years. Where we used to think that marble floors and countertops were outdated, now everybody is all up in it. The trend has transcended architectural boundaries and started popping up in home decor items, clothing, shoes, bags and even appearing on runways like Balenciaga, Kenzo and BCBG.

Add some marble to your life.

#AmaraLoves: Affordable Eid Outfits

July 12, 2015

Eid is right around the corner and if you’re like me, you are going to be scrambling around at the last minute trying to get your outfits in order. Since moving away from Lahore, I have noticed that I am always looking for quick ways to resolve my sartorial woes. This is precisely why I thank the God above for online shopping and international delivery.

I took the liberty of putting  together a few outfits which would be perfect for the summer Eid and not to heavy on the pocket. I opted for high street options, all under 5000 rupees and all available online.

Click the links below the images to shop the looks.

[1. Aybeez]  [2. Ego] [3. Generation] [4. Generation] [5. Naureen Shah]  [6. Nukti Dana] [7. Khaadi]

The usual suspects (Generation, Sana Safinaz, Daaman) all have great options for Eid, not too formal yet still stylish. If you are looking for a more traditional, clean cut look head over to Khaadi – the embroidered aqua version I chose is great if you are lounging around at home or with in-laws. I found some interesting options from lesser-known labels like Aybeez and Nukti Dana, both available on

I was pleasantly surprised with the price point of Zaheer Abbas’ Printology line – the gorgeous kurta above is only rs 3500.

Happy shopping!

#AmaraLoves: Crowning Glory at Couture Week 2015

July 11, 2015
Elie Saab couture Fall 2015 backstage details

Couture Week is my favourite fashion season of the year. I mean, fairytale gowns, other-worldly pieces and exquisite details – what else do you need? While I absorb all the runway collections and hone in on my favourite pieces, one trend that immediately stood out to me was the use of headpieces on most major runways.

Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad and Valentino all used gilded, gold headpieces as finishing touches to their breath-taking gowns, while Atelier Versace opted for a more boho-leafy headband to pair up with their sexy, flowing dresses.headbands at couture week fall 2015 including Elie Saab, Atelier Versace and Zuhair Murad

Top 5: Beautiful Celeb Kids

July 10, 2015
beautiful celebrity children

Celebrities seem to have it all – charisma, good looks and success written in their stars. It’s no surprise that their children seem to luck out too. And it seems like celeb kids are popping up all over the place, with one more beautiful than the other – here are 5 of those kids [and young adults] who’ve caught my eye.

Eve Hewson

The blue-eyed daughter of Bono and Ali Hewson made her forray into acting in 2005 and has steadily been appearing in movies since. She doesn’t seem to have any musical inclinations like her father, yet. But here’s hoping. You can currently watch her on the series The Knick.

Aryan Khan

shahrukh khan's son aryan khan

Come on, I had to represent some Bollywood on this list and the son of the King of Bollywood is the perfect inclusion. Aryan Khan, spawn of SRK, is only 18 years old. He currently studies in London but rumour has it that big time Bollywood producers are already vying to cast Aryan in his first film.

Kaia Gerber

As the daughter of Cindy Crawford and Randy Gerber, Kaia pretty much hit the gene-pool jackpot. Not only is she a ditto copy of her supermodel mom, the 13 year old [!] has just signed on with IMG Models and is making her Vogue debut soon.

Lily Rose Depp

Like Kaia, Lily Rose is the mirror image of her mother Vanessa Paradis with some of the mysterious charm of her father Johnny Depp thrown in. The 16 year old has been pretty elusive but caught the world’s attention this year when she attended the Chanel AW show with her mom in Paris and last week, when she walked the Chanel couture runway.

Lily Collins

lily-collinsThe daughter of iconic singer Phil Collins and queen of eyebrows Lily Collins has become a well known actress over the last few years. With appearances in big films like The Blind Side and an interesting look, she is meant for big things.

Interior Infatuation: Malachite

July 8, 2015

Home decor has become an interest of mine ever since I got married and moved into my own place. I am constantly looking at interiors blogs and have a slightly scary obsession with Pinterest (see here). One interiors trend that has currently caught my eye is malachite. I love anything stone, crystal and texture incorporated into decor, and malachite is the perfect amalgamation of all those things. With it’s rich green colour and swirly pattern, the use of malachite (especially when paired up with gold or brass) gives off a very luxurious vibe.

For me, the best way to show off a little malachite would be with an oversized painting on an otherwise neutral wall or some gorgeous decorative boxes.

Here are some ways you can add touches of malachite to your home.

Style 101: The Striped Pant

July 7, 2015

Here is our second menswear contribution! A big shout out to one of the most fashionable boys out of Karachi, Owais Haji, who is a blogger and designer currently based out of Sydney. Read on to see how he styles a statement trouser 5 ways.owais haji shows how to style striped trousers 5 ways Men are usually not seen sporting striped pants, even now where printed menswear has made it to mainstream fashion. Striped pants are still one of those bold statements that only brave-hearts choose to make. Although this pair of striped pants is classic black and white, don’t be afraid to go beyond the monochrome look and test their versatility.

Classic Monochrome

Pair these trousers with a black button down, black slip on loafers and accent the whole look off with a bit of metallic (in terms of reflective shades and accessories like cuffs and rings).

A Desi Touch

No one does colour like the sub continent and a pop of colour against black and white looks amazing. Pair it up with some classic classic Kolhapuris for that desi twist.

Get Sporty

Simple sneakers and a tee are the perfect way to instantly make these pants sporty. The stripes can be made athletic with any knit or neoprene tee that you can pair them up with it. Sneakers only go on to accentuate the sporty vibe of the whole look.

Resortin It

Because it’s summer, a resort vacay is a must for the urban chic guy and what better to sport than these pants paired up with a tee, jacket and some boldly coloured boat shoes.

Dressed to the Nineties

An over sized denim jacket, a tee and some heavy boots lend a part grunge, part rebel attitude to this look that was very much prevalent throughout the mid nineties.
